We will continue working with a group of 16 children from Ponce de Leon Middle School, including those enrolled in the 5000 Role Models that have previously participated in this program, while also offering this opportunity to students proficient in Robotics & Coding STEM Activities. This new format will be encouraging to those existing students with less access and experience with these concepts while providing new members with an opportunity to serve as a mentor and teammate.
During the Spring 2019 school year we introduced the students to Lego Mindstorms, a software platform produced by Lego for the development of programmable robots based on Lego Building Blocks. Each version of the system includes an intelligent ‘brick’ computer that controls the system, a set of modular sensors and motors, and Lego parts from the Technic line to create the mechanical systems.
These students learned the following concepts, which enabled them to build and program their own robots with the ability to receive commands directed by the students using tablets, computers and smart phone:
